No need to kagamibishaku if you’re taking hishaku from tana, ie in usucha, because you have already done kagamibishaku in an earlier temae (koicha). (as long as it’s the same teishu)
Futaoki can be bisected by shikiita or tangent in front, either is okay
Zaihan futaoki is kazari futaoki and can be used anywhere a usual kazari (ceramic, metal, etc) futaoki can be used. However it differs from regular Kazari futaoki in that it can be used for nagaita (alongside aodake for nagaita. Most people teach zaihan only — some gyotei says you can use aodake because you do it in juuden)
No requirement to have natsume on tana usually. Diagonal hishaku with futaoki on lower half, just that, is okay
Handashi, you should put down on front. 3h, r holding side, down to the same position as you would for shin mizusashi (2h down instead of R down is okay, but not necessary). Mizusashi should come out past the jiita a bit, not stop at the plane.
Kensui does still need to move even if you don’t take anything out of it (things already on tana)
Nakajimai you can do in yojohan. Wipe chashaku, then without Pom Pom, 1h R chawan, 1h r chaire, then pompom
however, if you use kaejawan and kyaku gives it back to you to clean, which they should do before you take chashaku so you know, you do not pull kensui and instead you should put bowl honjimai. This gives you room to put kaejawan to katte, also pull kensui after like in kasanejawan
Shimura sensei, “nakajimai is for the teishu”. Don’t really understand but he said that if teishu is actually sekishu, person doing temae should do honjimai out of respect
Don’t change it if you make an oopsies. If you meant to do naka in koicha but you forget, be consistent and do the same in usucha
Bowl fits in a 7 sun square (ro is 14 sun)
When giving kyaku omogashi and higashi, his preference is to put higashi beyond and in line with omogashi, rather than beyond and kamiza (which is a common teaching and is okay). This is from Shiotsuki-sensei (Daisosho’s sister?)
He doesn’t like kashibachi, so in this situation, he usually uses memezara for omogashi
I’m packed like sardines chakai, if you put higashi kamiza, it may look like it’s for the person above
Shin no gyo, indeed you take shifuku from daisu shomen in ro! Even though usually we do it from imai.
For shin and gyo position in ro, he still lines hishaku with sotozumi (not beyond)
He does NOT think you always need to take out the hishaku and futaoki after koicha.
Red natsume is unkin oopsie poopsie
misonodana lid
If the lid is slippery (lacquer on lacquer), Shiotsuki-sensei teaches to put lid on front left corner of that section of misonodana. Not front center! Way to do:
R takes tsumami
L rehold from side, R slightly change holding position
L atsukai while R holds tsumami, place on front left corner
TODO Send Glenn also kangoori recipe ➕ 2023-05-07 ✅ 2023-12-11
[?] TODO Karamono, do you still stand the chashaku if it’s not a heishibuta lid? (Apparently it’s unclear if it’s temae or dougu that decides this) ask-gyotei ➕ 2023-05-07
dairenmoku could be fushinashi but not zouge. His feeling. The rest he feels should be zouge, but there’s no clear line. Apparently one of the juuden has a time where you use take fushinashi specifically?
when taking futaoki off jiita for mizutsugi (ie it’s on lower left, and you need to zendashi or handashi):
either place down by the L tana leg (close up against the tana)
or place along the diagonal between the tana and the mizutsugi, outside of the tana space
but not!! bringing just directly in front from where it is on the ji-ita.
Changing the keshiki
For taking hishaku out after koicha etc, Glenn’s thinking is to make sure the keshiki changes every time. The keshiki does not change if you don’t do something with hishaku.
General to anything, you can always leave the futaoki and hishaku to L of furo shikiita.
For ryuuseidana specifically, keshiki options:
Haboki naname + kogo
Then after shozumi, bring out natsume for ten-ita and wipe either furo or robuchi
Hishaku vertical on left, natsume in center (not biased due to hishaku, actually center)
Like yamazatodana (iirc), same as above but with futaoki on ten-ita, just R of hishaku handle tip
Hishaku naname (Glenn doesn’t like this one as much, doesn’t like that everything is square on this tana then you throw in something diagonal)
With futaoki always
Natsume optional (you can take it out! e.g. kinin)
Sou-kazari, with hishaku vertical on L side of ten-ita, futaoki on ji-ita L, then chawan and usuchaki on ten-ita in the remaining space
[?] TODO Can you sou kazari on ryuuseidana ten-ita with hishaku vertical in center like marujoku? ➕ 2023-05-07
So for him, he would not take the hishaku out after koicha.
Sou kazari, doing temae after
Usually done outside of chaji context. Atomi, or friend came over and another comes later
Overall flow:
Teishu comes in with just kensui. It is still placed at side, even though you don’t take anything from it.
FIRST THING you do is koshi fukusa. (Last thing you do in prior temae → first thing you do in this temae. Also, nice to get back into “teishu mode”)
Then scoot right → move simultaneously chawan + chaki down to floor. Then scoot back.
Then futaoki out 3h, then hishaku. Don’t need to kagamibishaku.
then kensui up to knee line, then continue as usual.
