Schema
I’m thinking to try using statuses and tags as a way of organizing my notes. I’m already finding that creating new notes is turning into an organizational headache, even after just creating 10 or so. Particularly, I have no idea which folder certain things should go into. For example, Daime. This has a few different things it could be part of:
- Temae Reference, because how to move in a daime room is important for temae.
- Chaji, because guests need to know how to enter and exit temaeza for temaeza haiken.
- Rooms, if I create a note for that, because I might want to collate against a number of different rooms.
Picking a folder doesn’t really make sense.
I think I would still like to keep a few of my folders.
Temae Referenceis valuable as a one-stop shop for temae procedures. Any ancillary information coming out of there, like Kinin Guest Procedures or Shittai, shikko, could still live in a larger area. But this gets me most of the way if I ever need to view these documents in a non-Obsidian setting.Glenn Okeiko ReferenceandTeaching Logare useful to keep track of all of the stuff I’m generating.Chanoyu Quarterlyis useful for a similar reason asTemae Reference. It’s static, and it’s very useful to have offline.Okashi Referenceis useful for recipes. Maybe it becomesRecipe Referenceinstead, and I only move notes there if I have recipes for the okashi.
Statuses
I think it’s reasonable to use hashtags for the status of the note, then links for the topics. This way, links could later turn into MOC’s etc. The tags I’m planning on using:
| Tag | Description |
|---|---|
| needs-review | For marking fleeting notes (daily notes, okeiko logs, etc) that need to be mined for information I want to bring permanently into other notes. This is the state in which all fleeting notes start. |
| reviewed | Fleeting notes whose contents have been incorporated elsewhere, if they were useful. Still may contain TODO’s. |
| wip | Permanent notes that are under construction. This doesn’t mean that the note will never be touched again, but that I still haven’t finished my original planned content. This is the state in which all permanent notes start. |
| evergreen | Permanent notes, moved here once they’re ”done”. These can still be updated later etc. |
| project | For notes dealing with a project. These will always be WIP by definition until they’re complete, and I don’t want to confuse these with permanent notes. |
I like the idea of having a three-stage system, seed / sapling / evergreen, but in practice, I never have empty notes (which would correspond to seed). The only reason I create notes is to fill them in, otherwise I leave them as uninstantiated links.

Tags
Quick thought - temae procedures themselves should be tagged as Temae Reference. Auxiliary things should be tagged as Temae. (Or maybe something else… Temae Adjacent? Temae Supporting?).
