For positioning, aim at the inner corner of the rodan. If that’s difficult, it is also acceptable to aim toward kantsuki.

Reaching the kensui will be more difficult than usual. It does not need to be at the usual 5-mei position from the tatami border. Just make sure you can reach it with L when you’re emptying the chawan.

Suzuki-sensei:

Dairo is nezumi-iro because it’s wabi.

There are two kinds of Haisaji that can be used for dairo, metal and ceramic. Neither is preferred over the other, but ceramic is significantly harder to scoop due to the thick edge. So… Suzuki-sensei prefers the metal haisaji.

Tip

Fill the corner of the rodan a bit with shimeshibai to help the wari-/kudazumi to stand properly.
