Special characteristics

This temae is basically just:

Holding kensui and chawan stacked together are like below:

Holding the kensui when exiting is done with a flat palm, thumb inside the kensui.

Kensui placement

It differs between ro and furo. In both cases, you place the kensui directly onto the knee line (bisected) when you first enter.

Opening:

  • Furo: After kagami-bishaku, pull the kensui down so it’s tangent to the knee line, and simultaneously turn the seam to the wall.
  • Ro: After kagami-bishaku, only turn the seam to the wall. No movement.

Closing:

  • Furo: Rotate the seam back to “vertical”, and also pull the kensui down like usual in furo.
  • Ro: Rotate the seam back to “vertical”, and also pull the kensui down to below the knee line.

Temae

Opening

  • Sit with kensui as described above.
  • Take down natsume with R, then teabowl with 2H → L to place down.
  • 3H atsukai futaoki to place in normal position.
  • Take hishaku, Kagamibishaku, and place on futaoki.

From here, it’s more-or-less the same until closing.

Closing is more-or-less just Sou Kazari closing, but with the addition of Leaving the fukusa and the kensui.

Sou Kazari bits:

    • Return hishaku and futaoki to tana.
  • Scoot over to sit directly in front of the tana, both hands lift bowl and natsume onto the tana at the same time.
  • Fold fukusa into sou-sabaki, and leave fukusa on lid.
  • Scoot back to imai, then exit.
