This refers to leaning the chashaku onto the lid of the chaire, particularly in temae like Karamono and Gyo no Gyo.

To place down

  1. R is holding chashaku in “tea hand” from the bottom.
  2. Itsy-bitsy-spider, L holds just above.
  3. R reholds from side-side from the rear, then places down onto the chaire lid.
    1. The Kaisaki should be roughly ~parallel to horizontal. Depending on the amount of bend in the chashaku, it will usually end up around 45 degrees off.

To pick up

Same, but reverse.

  1. R takes side-side from the rear.
  2. L reholds slightly lower.
  3. R finally reholds from bottom in “tea hand”.

Notes

suzuki and glenn say that the new way to take (and place down) chashaku isn’t side-side, but top-bottom. I need to try this.
