Cliff Notes

Dougu layout

  • Behind the robuchi is usually a board called the mukou-ita. Perhaps a couple inches wide. So the robuchi is not necessarily all the way back to the rear of the tatami.
    • However, apparently Taian does not have a mukou-ita, and the robuchi is all the way back.
  • Mizusashi is in the center of the remaining space (it seems).
  • Knee line is 18 mei from the front of the robuchi, like it would be from shikiita.
    • This does place you very far from the mizusashi.

Temae positioning

  • Chasen is vertical from the mizusashi, chaki goes naname to the left.
  • Everything goes massugu:
    • Kama lid
    • Chakin
    • Hishaku
  • Shifuku originally was tangent to the rear of the robuchi, but now it seems that it’s more forward. Perhaps tangent to the inner wall of the rodan? glenn

Serving guests

  • Because this temae is often done in a Nijo Koma, you will give dougu directly to guests on their tatami. Try to avoid putting the dougu on the heri.
