Cliff Notes

Background:

  • Kasane-jawan is usually done with lots of guests, which means it’s in a Hiroma. Therefore, it’s most likely that you will use a Tana to accommodate the space.
    • Tana isn’t required though.
  • Top bowl is Raku Chawan, bottom bowl is Ido Chawan.

Temae:

  • Both bowls together go to karioki position at start. Chaire is moved, then upper bowl is placed mizusashi shomen. Lower bowl stays.
  • Temae proceeds as normal until first bowl is served, Sukuidashi.
    • Don’t forget to say how many people are drinking
  • After o-fukukagen, host continues directly to second bowl.
    • Take with L → R to center.
    • Oyu, dump, wipe. Mawashidashi rest of tea.
    • (Furo) Do not add cold water. Cold water is only added once for all koicha.
    • Second bowl is placed out as normal for Ido Chawan with kobukusa.
  • After second o-fukukagen, host adds cold water, then answers questions from imai.
  • First bowl comes back. Sorei, then continue as normal for hirademae until chawan and chaire are back to mizusashi shomen.
    • EXCEPT: Kensui isn’t pulled back yet. That happens after second bowl comes back.
  • Second bowl comes back. Sorei, then oyu and empty into kensui (no Kosusugi or wiping).
  • Rehold to L, then place down to the wall above the kensui. Then, pull kensui back.
    • (It’s tight)
  • Finish as normal for hirademae, with omojawan stacking into second bowl when moving to katte for haiken.

Pointo:

  • Only the guests who drank from the bowl sorei when it goes back.
