手を突いて — te o tsuite
Placing your L hand on the ground, fingertips touching (not full palm), to stabilize yourself whenever dealing with precious dougu.
When it’s done
This is done in Shikaden and up when moving haiken dougu. Specifically:
Teishu
- When placing dougu out for haiken after purifying.
Guests
- When moving on the kayoi-datami, bringing dougu to your spot as first guest.
- When moving dougu out of your spot as last guest to start returning it for deai.
- NOT when passing among guests or when viewing glenn.
Positioning
Don’t worry about putting your L hand directly in front. If your hand is in front, then when R reaches over to your side, you make this weird X shape.
Just put your L hand wherever is comfortable for whatever you’re doing. This could be side of your body, front, etc. Move your hand wherever makes sense.
