The chabako lid should be centered (laterally) between the right edge of the heri and the shikiita.

When placing the natsume on the chabako lid:

  • First, the natsume is in the center of the lid.
  • After kiyome, the natsume is biased to the left to make room for the chasen and chakin.

The chakin in the tsutsu should be shibori’d, ie have a spiral look to it. It should also be rather tight.

Chakin ears should point LEFT when placing on the chabako lid. You take them out of the tsutsu naturally (see, here’s naturally again). Chabako - Hana is the exception, where ears point to the right, and that is because you are placing the chakin against the rim of the bon.

I don’t remember the context for this; I’ll need to do it myself to see what this means.

Haiken, turning kyakutsuki with kakego, fukusa nigiriconde should be as if you just wiped chashaku. This is more natural → if you place on your palm and close your hand, this is the shape it takes.

In yuki, you keep your folded fukusa as-is in your kaichuu. Don’t pon-pon the fukusa after wiping the chashaku. This is done in the mizuya.

Guests only need to open a small square (fukusa) for natsume and chashaku haiken. No need to open the entire thing.
