Bondate

  • General ro things
    • Okiro, try to put the hishaku no go more to the right inside the mouth of the kama. That will keep it from rolling down too much
    • Pouring water (ie pouring water into kama), pour from the elbow just like you do pouring water in the bowl
    • When holding chashaku nigiriconde and doing fukusa sabaki, try to make sure the chashaku is behind the fukusa, ie visible to the guest
    • Exiting the temaedatami after haiken is leading with right foot, not cover.
    • Shifuku should be center of the mizusashi, not far edge of the mizusashi, and it should be 8 sun from the left heri
      • Related, the center of the mizusashi should be about 8 sun to the left of the 3/4 mark in the tatami. ie, split the tatami into 4 sections, and from the 3/4 mark (excluding heri), move left 8 sun.
    • You should atsukau futaoki on L palm when putting under the hishaku/back out to the ro. When placing down on the tatami by ro, R should be more overhand, rather than side.
  • Shikaden ro things
    • When doing shitai-shiko, you scoot back while at imai, then stand. Standing from here should be an immediate left-foot cover, bc you don’t have room to scoot back any further
    • You do need to avoid dougu when going into mizusashi, but this one can be a lot more subtle than in furo [because you’re coming from the right anyway]
    • Karamono no ichi is your regular kyakutsuki (ie center of body bisected by robuchi), but then 3 mei to the right (for haiken).
  • Bondate ro things
    • Temae order:
      • Walk in as usual
      • Sit mizusashi no shomen, chawan goes karioki, bon comes out 3 mei
      • Take chaire, turn imai, open chaire only until opening cord, then place IN FRONT OF THE RO
        • Positioning here is literally between yourself and the robuchi. ie, touch sotozumi, then run your finger down the robuchi until you’re 2/3’s of the way down. Put the chaire there.
        • It’ll be to the right of your right knee, ish
      • Shin sabaki, then clean bon in place (ie hovering over its home with your chest facing mizusashi shomen, but your body still at imai). Place back at kami ichimai, koshi fukusa
      • Take chaire, put shifuku in its home, shin sabaki, dobuki, place on bon (this is all from imai). Koshi fukusa
      • L→R chawan to temae, scoot back, stand with L, immediately turn left covering R (versus stepping backwards), exit
      • Come back with kensui, sit far back, scoot up. Take hishaku, futaoki, place out etc as usual, sorei etc.
      • So sabaki, clean chashaku, modoshibuki and refold in nigirikonde, then wipe one more time. Nigiriconde fukusa and 3h place chashaku to L of chaire on bon, pinching sides
      • Chasen out, 5 mei south of heri tangent to hishaku. Wipe if nuributa, chakin.
      • Add oyu, close lid fully. Fukusa is R knee if using. Chasentoshi, return, empty, wipe.
      • LEAVING CHASHAKU ON BON, first momite and chaire. Hold as if karamono (ie from under but not touching palm). Remove lid, place on bon
        • Two ways to do this. One, move chaire back so R placing lid on bon isn’t super awkward
        • Two, leave chaire in place and lid goes underneath arm holding chaire.
        • I prefer former, feels less awkward. Never ever put your arm above the chaire though.
      • Then take chashaku, sukuidashi, place on bowl, close lid, return chaire to bon
      • Zig zag chashaku, then with chashaku nigiriconde in R, take fukusa with R (if on ground) and so sabaki/wipe 3x modoshibuki. After modoshi, pom pom with chashaku nigiriconde, then one more wipe. 3H pinch sides and return to bon with fukusa nigirikonde
      • Make tea. Fukusa ends up L knee here.
      • Ofukukagen etc is all normal. Get things out of the way, turn, come back, return things out, add mizu, koshi fukusa. If using fukusa, do not use to re-close the lid during nakajimai
      • Return bowl to temae, sorei, questions, oyu, empty, ichiyo oshimai
      • Mizu, chasentoshi (2x), empty, chakin, chasen. No wipe.
      • Once bowl is down! Chashaku 3H onto bowl (no wipe, already did). Bowl R→L to honjimai (katte), then L pull back kensui.
        • Yes, there is not much room here. Place the bowl however well you can, then move the kensui down s.t. the hishaku go will be in a good spot
      • Mizu, ask for haiken (ask for all things at this point afaik)
      • Close up, momide, chaire to kyakutsuki ISH (karamono no ichi). Gyo sabaki, doubuki, kantsuki. KEEP FUKUSA FOLDED IN L (not nigiriconde)
      • Turn to imai. Refold fukusa gyo sabaki. Nigiriconde, take bon, turn to karamono no ichi, kiyome, place out, koshi fukusa.
      • Turn back mizusashi shomen, take chashaku, turn ALL THE WAY to karamono no ichi, te wo suite and place chashaku out.
      • Turn back only to imai, take shifuku, turn back karamono no ichi, te wo suite, place
      • Leave, come back etc
      • Momide, chaire on bon, bon heriuchi, chashaku on bon, shifuku on bon
      • Pick up 2h, rehold L deeply, R on chaire, exit.
    • Re: dougu, no real bon requirement. Could be “idk it came with it,” could be a sotsetsu you got made for the piece, etc.
    • TODO Question. Karamono ichi, are you there as well when guests are drinking? Or are you normal kyakutsuki?
