There are no hard rules for how many wipes of the Kojakin, etc. The two important things are:
Go fast.
- Don’t let the tea get cold for guests after you.
Don’t wipe too deeply.
- All guests, except the tsume, should only wipe the rim of the bowl where your lips touched.
- If you wipe deep, you steal tea from the other guests!
Two wipes are usually enough. It keeps it expedient. glenn

Use the left corner of the kojakin, rather than the whole thing. This keeps the tea from going everywhere. glenn
Tip
At the end of the wipe, release the kojakin away from the wall of the chawan rather than pulling up along the wall. Else, you’re just moving the tea around. glenn
