The mizusashi is made in the Oranda style (the name comes from the word for Holland, in Japanese), which is based on the shape of tobacco jars imported by the Dutch during the Edo period (1603-1867). The vivid colors and motifs are also inspired by those jars as the painted tobacco leaves shows.
