Shokyaku must move first to indicate to the Tsume that they want to go. Both guests move up to the dougu-datami.
In a canonical chaji situation (yojohan, 3 guests), the shokyaku would be coming from the far side of the kinindatami. They should come up to sit with their knees over the kinindatami heri on a diagonal. glenn
Repositioning the dougu before returning
I have heard two different opinions on this.
- From ula - in upper temae, shokyaku should not reposition the dougu before returning to the dougu-datami. In konarai and below, however, they should move it once before returning.
- From glenn - always return the dougu directly from where the tsume placed it. Do not move it. It is better for the dougu to handle it as little as possible.
