[Nearly] last day of bonryaku, soon moving onto chitosebon! Iwama-sensei
Short notes today. We went out to get nagajuban and took a detour to VIVRE after for some dessert, because buying kimono is tough business. We also had homework today (????).
- Round, round, round. Especially after ichimonji in fukusa folding. Wearing the suit jacket is definitely part of it, but that’s not an excuse.
- Stop pulling your hand all the way to your hip. Remember, maintain kamaeru all through the temae.
- Hold the chashaku up much higher when picking up for okashi wo douzo. This makes it easier to transition to nigiriconde from the pickup position.
- Don’t scoop from the fingers, scoop from the wrist. It’s easier to do if you hold the chashaku like you would a hishaku rather than like a pencil.
- Iwama-sensei specific note: thumb should be along the handle, not under the handle. Like you’re giving a thumbs up.
- Don’t pon-pon so hard. It’s a pon, not a smack.
- Try to pour the water into the kensui so it makes a beautiful sound.
- Chasentoshi, shaka shaka a little less. As I do it now, it’s too long.
Bowing
- Rise slower! Especially as teishu. Hayaku down (ish), yukkkkkkkuriiiiii up.
