Daien no Sou

  • Learned from his juuden class:
    • Apparently, you are supposed to put the chaire in the center of the bon when doing kiyome (at the beginning). I really don’t like this, there’s no room there! So don’t worry about that.
      • As a secondary step though, where DO we put the chaire?
      • I usually end up putting it in the middle between the center and the edge (6oclock). This is the same position as I put the tenmokujawan.
      • Then a question, where do you put the chaire for karamono? Apparently you DON’T put it in the center between the shikiita and your knee line, and it should actually be closer to your knee line (glenn opinion, no solid facts here). So???? What to do?
    • No need to momide and move the karamono at the end to the front of the bon during haiken. Just shin-sabaki and take from where it is, no momide.
      • This one I really like. Makes it more symmetric with the beginning, as well as symmetric with the wamono.
    • Water is like in gyo, ie escalator to the front of the kama. (Seemed like, no super strong mandate on this one)
  • Other notes
    • Putting chashaku on the bon, he and I both do top-bottom, but it sounds like they might do it side-side in their juuden class? Idk on this one. There’s plenty of room to do top-bottom without a rehold; i’ll keep doing this one.
    • Taking hishaku from mukogiri position, take “as usual” with tip pressing into palm, as opposed to taking from the fushi like we do when picking up from kensui.
    • HAIKEN
      • When placing the chashaku on the bon (as teishu), the chashaku should be under the himo (his personal opinion, thinks that putting on top of the himo looks weird).
      • As a guest:
        • View all
        • Open fukusa
        • Momide, 2h take lid, place in center of fukusa (with 2h). 2h view karamono. 2h return lid, then karamono to upper right quadrant.
        • Then wamono, also handle with 2h (his opinion — if you’re supporting in general, continue supporting here as well, including for the lid). Lid to upper left quadrant, then wamono, then return lid, then wamono to upper right quadrant.
        • NEXT IS CHASHAKU. NOT SHIFUKU. Also for chashaku and shifuku, te wo suite on the floor.
        • Then shifuku, te wo suite.
        • Then return everything, ie: momide → karamono → wamono → THEN CHASHAKU → then karamono shifuku (from bottom) → then wamono shifuku (from bottom)
        • Then close fukusa, then view all, then done.
    • Things to buy for shin:
      • Senzara
      • Shin chakin
      • Shouha donsu kobukusa
      • Tray?
      • Bowl shifuku?
